One Step At A Time | 150km Running Film By Sam Howard

The film

150km, from one Norwegian town to another. You can’t really imagine what that’s like. It’s not a chance you get that often. You get to Oslo Central Station and find the statue from the description: the golden tiger in the middle of the square. There is this girl in a bucket hat with a pizza print, meeting you with a big smile. She was cast for the New Zealand run, and she is just running the first 5k since she happens to be in the area. During that time, she tells you that she got accepted for New Zealand because she wrote about how much she loved carrots. She has that type of personality that lifts the mood of the whole group.

You arrive at the first camp spot. It’s late, and it’s your first night ever in the woods. You crawl into your hammock and look up at the clear sky full of stars. The crisp air fills your lungs as you fall asleep.

Day two passes, day three goes by. You catch yourself being so utterly in the moment. You feel that humanness you were longing for: that connection of helping each other through every challenge.

The last kilometers, you find yourself blasting music as you run through Porsgrunn. You don’t care at all. Nothing is cringe. People stop and cheer for you. Car windows roll down, and you hear uplifting words wherever you go.

You climb the last hill and get to the viewpoint. You never imagined that a small Norwegian town could be so pretty from above.
